Man City and Hammers draw

Man City and Hammers draw

20 January 2008 - 19:55

Man City and West Ham played out a draw at Eastlands today as a great opener from Carlton Cole was cancelled out by a Darius Vassell equaliser, and West Ham looked by far the more dangerous team throughout.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Carlton Cole put the Hammers ahead after just eight minutes before Darius Vassell scored a controversial equaliser eight minutes later despite appearing to be in an offside position.

The result sees City go fifth but Hamann admitted they had been fortunate after the visitors dominated the second half and but for a last-minute save by Joe Hart the hosts would have ended up with nothing.

Richard Dunne sent the ball towards Carlton Cole - the striker with his back to goal - but Cole twisted magnificently to whip an overhead kick into the top-left corner of the net.

Anton Ferdinand had only half-cleared a City corner, Petrov swung a ball into the heart of the West Ham area. The ball bobbled around in a sea of players for a split second before falling to Darius Vassell, who hooked the ball home from close range.
