Man City complete signing of young star

05 July 2016 - 13:41

Manchester City have completed the signing of Ukranian teenager Oleksandr Zinchenko from FC Ufa.

  • Chelsea striker joins Fatih Karagumruk on loan
  • Confirmed Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Brentford, Estevao absent

  • The Pep Guardiola revolution is underway at Manchester City and the Catalan coach has already tied up deals for Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund and Nolito from Celta Vigo.

Now he has added 19-year-old attacking midfielder Zinchenko to his ranks.

Zinchenko is one of the most highly rated youngsters on the continent after impressing for FC Ufa since his 2015 move from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Unkraine international, who came through the youth system at Shakhtar, scored twice in 26 appearances for Ufa last season.

In just his second full international appearance, Zinchenko became Ukraine's youngest ever goal scorer in a 4-3 win over Romania in May, breaking a long standing record held by legendary AC Milan and Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.

Zinchenko played in all three of Ukraine's group games at the UEFA European Championship in France last month, coming on as a substitute against Germany and Northern Ireland before playing from the start against Poland. However, the young player was unable to prevent his country from being eliminated, as they finished bottom of the group without scoring a goal.

It is likely that Zinchenko will be used sparingly at the Etihad next season, as Guardiola will view the 19-year-old as one for the future, rather than the sort of player who can come straight into the first-team.
