Arsenal are set to exercise their transfer power in the market as the need for a new centre-back looms. The Gunners are in dire need of defensive reinforcements after Gabriel joined Per Mertesacker in the physio room.

  • Gabriel sustained an ankle injury in the 3-2 friendly win over Manchester City, and this has ruled him out for at least eight weeks.

The Mail says the Gunners will lodge a &pound30m bid for Mustafi in the coming hours with manager Arsene Wenger desperate to recruit a central defender ahead of the Premier League opener.

As of now, the North London outfit have young Englishmen Rob Holding and Calum Chambers as the only reliable options at the heart of the defence.

Whilst, Mathieu Debuchy, who has been previously deployed at centre-back, is unlikely to play any part for the Gunners as he nears a summer exit.
