Manchester City will step up their hunt for a new centre-back despite recruiting John Stones from Everton earlier this month. Pep Guardiola is not convinced with the abilities of Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi whilst club-captain Vincent Kompany is still recovering from a thigh problem.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Citizens will make their move for a central defender once they confirm the signing of Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. The Chilean has settled terms with the Mancunian giants, and a deal is likely to go through once a fee is finalized with the La Liga holders.
Juventus' Leonardo Bonucci is currently the preferred option for the centre-back role with his agent having previously communicated over a proposed move.
City would have to pay a fee similar to that of Stones (£47m), if they are to prise the Italy international away from the Old Lady.
Aleksandar Kolarov was asked to partner alongside Stones in the heart of the defence during City's 2-1 win over Sunderland in the opening fixture.
