Chelsea bid for Alessio Romagnoli

22 August 2016 - 14:37

Chelsea have lodged a formal bid for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli after they missed out on signing Kalidou Koulibaly.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Blues recently pulled out of the chase for Koulibaly after they were stumped by Napoli's £57m asking price.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio says the Blues have tabled a £30m sum in a desperate attempt to land Romagnoli this summer.

Antonio Conte has urged the club's hierarchy to look for a new centre-back with John Terry and Gary Cahill being the only reliable options whilst Kurt Zouma is still on a recovery path from a knee injury.

Romagnoli, 21, has turned into a key performer for Milan since his move from AS Roma last year, and this is likely to make it tougher to lure the player to Stamford Bridge.

Torino's Nikola Maksimovic is also on the radar of the West London giants.
