Long term injuries for United duo

Manchester United defensive duo Phil Jones and Chris Smalling face a long term spell on the sidelines as a result of the injuries that they picked up on international duty according to manager Jose Mourinho.

  • Mourinho was speaking at his pre match press conference ahead of Manchester United's Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday, with United looking to close the gap on the top four.

The Red Devils will also be without Paul Pogba, who picked up a hamstring injury when away with France and Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who both miss out due to suspension.

When asked about a possible return date for Jones and Smalling, Mourinho said "I don't know. I think clearly they are long-term." Additionally, in regards to Pogba's return, he admitted "I have no idea."

One positive for United is that Wayne Rooney will be available for selection again after sitting out the last four matches because of a knee injury.
