Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus scored late on at the Riverside to rescue Manchester City a point, and deny Middlesbrough a victory that they desperately needed, in their attempt to remain in the Premier League.Â
There was just one goal in the first half of this tie, when Alvaro Negredo scored against one of his former clubs, his curling effort enough to beat Willy Caballero in the Manchester City goal.Â
With a little over twenty minutes left to play, Sergio Aguero equalised from the spot, when City were awarded a controversial penalty. Middlesbrough's players were outraged, with Leroy Sane looking to have hit the ground very easily.Â
The home team overcame that anger, and retook the lead with just twelve minutes remaining. On loan defender Calum Chambers got enough on the ball to beat the goalkeeper and looked set to have won Middlesbrough the three points that they so badly needed.Â
With just five minutes to go, Gabriel Jesus capped his first start since recovering from injury by rising to get on the end of an Aguero cross and land it in the back of the Middlesbrough goal. 2-2 is how is how it finished at the Riverside. Â
Both teams could have done with a win, but a point keeps them both in contention. With three games left to play, Middlesbrough are six points from safety, and have to hope that they can better the results of the teams around them. Manchester City stay fourth and still a point and a place above Manchester United. They are now also level on points with third place Liverpool, but will have seen today's game as a real opportunity to move above them.Â
