Manchester City have reportedly emerged as surprise candidates to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can at the end of the season.
The Germany international has stalled on talks over a contract extension, and it appears that he could leave Anfield on a free next summer.
Juventus have previously admitted their interest in pursuing a Bosman move for the 23-year-old while Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has also talked up the player's potential ahead of the New Year.
However, according to Calciomercato, the European giants could potentially face competition from Manchester City, who are keen to bolster their midfield options further.
Pep Guardiola currently has the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Yaya Toure to provide backup to Fernandinho and Kevin de Bruyne in central midfield, but the latter may leave the Etihad at the end of the season.
As per Calciomercato, City could be prepared to outbid their fellow rivals by offering a contract worth £4m-a-year to Can, who could join compatriots Gundogan and Leroy Sane at the Etihad.
Can has impressed for Liverpool in the early part of the campaign with three goals and two assists - including a brace in the Champions League playoff versus Hoffenheim.
