Olivier Giroud talks up new Chelsea contract

Giroud refuses to rule out new Blues deal

Olivier Giroud talks up new Chelsea contract

02 September 2018 - 20:11

France international Olivier Giroud has refused to rule out the possibility of extending his contract beyond the end of the current campaign.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The 31-year-old has struggled to win over new manager Maurizio Sarri since the start of the season and this has witnessed him appear from the bench in three of the four Premier League games this term.

Despite this, Giroud appears content with his stay with the west London giants and he is hopeful of remaining with the club until 2020 at the least with a one-year extension clause available on his current deal.

"I still have one year of contract, plus possibly another year," Giroud told Telefoot. "The board of the club have been positive in terms of giving me it. "I do not know yet, we'll see how things are in April or May, but I won't exclude any possibility. We'll see."

Giroud joined the Blues from London rivals Arsenal during the backend of the previous campaign and he thereafter commanded a regular role in the starting lineup after Alvaro Morata went through a lean patch.

Morata has started the current season in a much better fashion after contributing a goal versus Arsenal but Sarri may consider a change, if he goes through an extended run of games without scoring.
