Paul Scholes slams Alexis Sanchez signing by Manchester United

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has slammed his former club for the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal during the 2018 winter transfer window.

  • The Chilean was widely tipped to join Manchester City during the first half of the previous campaign but in a strange change of events, he made the switch to Old Trafford at the turn of the year.

Speaking to ESPN, Scholes admitted that Sanchez is a good calibre of a player but he simply does not fit into the scheme of things under United boss Jose Mourinho.

He added to suggest that Sanchez was only recruited by United to spite City and this has certainly backfired as the attacker is unlikely to be offloaded with ease due to his staggering wages.

"I know he has qualities and has been a good player but I never saw him as a United player," he told ESPN. "The signing felt like it happened just to stop Man City signing him."

Sanchez has netted just four times for United since making the January switch from the Emirates Stadium and one of those came during the epic 3-2 comeback win over Newcastle United this month.
