Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sent a warning to Manchester City by saying that the Reds are still on the first step of their journey and will be there again to challenge for the Premier League crown next term.
The Merseyside giants required a favour from Brighton & Hove Albion, who were hosting City on the final day of the season but that was not the case as Pep Guardiola's side cruised to a 4-1 triumph.
As such, the Reds missed out on the Premier League title by the solitary point despite their 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers but Klopp was still pleased with the players' efforts.
Speaking after the game, Klopp said that he is pleased with the Reds' progress through the campaign and there is far more to come from the club during the 2019/2020 Premier League season.
"We made such big steps. It’s only the first step. Always after a good year we lost key players [in the past] but we won’t [this time] so we’ll be there again," he told Sky Sports.
Despite the disappointment, Liverpool can end the campaign on a high as they are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur in the quest for their sixth Champions League crown on June 1.
