Man Utd destroyed Liverpool 3-0 at Old Trafford today thanks to goals from defender Wes Brown and Portuguese wing pair Nani and Ronaldo. Man Utd are now firmly in the driving seat for Premiership glory - with all eyes fixed on Stamford Bridge as United moved six points clear.
The Red Devils got the lead from a headed goal by Wes Brown from six yards off a cross by Wayne Rooney from left channel.
In the second half, the home side were in control right from the start, and Jose Reina made a good stop off a powerful shot from Rooney.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrardâs free-kick after the hour mark, made its way to Fernando Torres in the penalty area as defender Rio Ferdinand failed to make a clearing header. However, Torres could not react quickly enough to work United keeper Edwin van der Sar.
Rooney made a brilliant move from left and set up Anderson, but the last-named blazed over from 18 yards much to the annoyance of the England ace.
Reina made another fine save as he blocked a low shot from substitute Carlos Tevez from close range as United pressed for the second goal.
Portuguese winger Ronaldo made it 2-0 for the Red Devils, scoring with a header off a corner-kick by Nani. It was his 34th goal of the season and first against the Merseysiders.
Compatriot Nani made it 3-0 with a brilliant finish from the edge of the penalty area after a pass from Rooney.
