Arsenal are reported to have suffered a major injury blow with defender Calum Chambers suffering a knee ligament damage in the recent Premier League clash against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
The England international picked up the problem during the early stages of the London derby and he was shortly substituted with Shkodran Mustafi taking his central defensive spot.
According to The Mail, the north London side fear that the defender has ruptured his knee ligaments and that could keep him out of action for the rest of the ongoing campaign.
The same publication states that could trigger the need for another centre-back in the New Year and the club are prepared to back manager Mikel Arteta with funds for the new recruit.
Arsenal are currently exploring the prospect of recalling William Saliba from his loan deal at Saint-Etienne but that would be largely dependent on the French club, due to the absence of a recall clause.
