Meunier to Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur begin talks with Belgian defender

16 June 2020 - 13:08

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened negotiations with Thomas Meunier regarding a potential free transfer at the end of the season.

  • Chelsea want to sign Alejandro Garnacho for £30m?
  • Chelsea agree deal to sign wonderkid for €40m

  • The Belgium international has yet to be handed a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain and he is expected to become a free-agent when the current campaign concludes.

Meunier is unlikely to be short of offers but The Express claims that Spurs are leading the race to sign the former Club Brugge defender.

Jose Mourinho is deemed to have personally contacted Meunier earlier in April and the club are now aiming to finalise a pre-contract with the player.

Spurs currently have Serge Aurier as the only senior right-back in the squad while Japhet Tanganga has occasionally started ahead of the Ivorian.

Mourinho sees Tanganga's future in the central defensive role and he is keen on landing another experienced defender to compete with Aurier.

The Belgian has made 21 appearances for Les Parisiens in the Ligue 1 and Champion League this term.

He has expressed his desire to remain in Paris but the club seem to have decided against renewing his deal.
