Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is set to prioritise the signing of a new central defender when the transfer window reopens.
The Blues have already strengthened the attack with the purchase of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and they are now likely to focus on the backline.
The west London side have been vulnerable at the back at different stages of the season and they have conceded more goals than any of the clubs in the top 10 of the Premier League.
Hence, Lampard is said to be keen on pursuing a new central defender ahead of next season. It is added that the futures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen could be in doubt with neither of them offered new deals.
West Ham United's Declan Rice has been previously mentioned as the top target for the Blues, but it remains to be seen whether they will meet the Hammers' £70m price tag.
Rice, who was previously in the youth ranks of Chelsea, has been identified as someone who can play in the centre of the back three for Lampard next season.
