James ends Newcastle run

13 April 2008 - 10:08

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan praised David James after the Portsmouth goalkeeper kept Keegan's on form strikers at bay. Newcastle were chasing their fourth consecutive win, but a string of great saves by James saw Portsmouth nab their share of the spoils.

  • “Harry and myself will probably look at it the same: Could have won it, could have lost it,” Kevin Keegan told Setanta Sports. “Probably, if we are honest, on the day a draw was probably right.

“You look at it through rose-tinted glasses when you manage Newcastle. I can remember some good chances against [Peter] Schmeichel, smacking against his head or face I think it was.

“And David James has had such a season hasn’t he? He could save it with his cap at the moment. But I don’t think I can come here and say we deserved the win, but we certainly deserved at least a draw.”
