Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has urged West Ham United to consider a move for Phil Jones when the transfer window reopens.
The Hammers were desperately on the search for a quality centre-back this summer and they were unsuccesfully in signing either James Tarkowski or Wesley Fofana.
Ultimately, they settled for the loan signing of Craig Dawson from Watford before the EFL transfer deadline, but they are likely to purchase another player at the turn of the year.
Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips said that the club should consider a move for Jones, who will want to prove a point after failing to make the Premier League squad for Manchester United.
"You would be getting a player that would want to prove a point after not being name in the Manchester United squad. It looks like David Moyes is looking for English defenders. I know he has signed [Craig] Dawson on loan but Phil Jones fits the bill for them," He told.
Aside from Jones, Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo were also excluded from the Premier League squad by the Red Devils. The duo are expected to pursue fresh challenges in January.
