Paris Saint-Germain to swoop for Chelsea defender?

23 December 2020 - 20:56

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined Barcelona in the race to sign Antonio Rudiger during the January transfer window.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Germany international has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea since the arrival of Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

Silva and Kurt Zouma are currently the first-choice central defenders and Rudiger is clearly unsatisfied with his role as the back-up.

Barcelona have been fancied to sign him in the New Year, but Le Parisien reports that Thomas Tuchel's side are also planning a possible approach.

The club are in an injury crisis with Presnel Kimpembe and Abdou Diallo out with hamstring issues and the former may not return for the next four weeks.

Hence, Tuchel is keen to address the issue and reports claim that they could attempt to sign Rudiger on loan with the option to buy next summer.

Rudiger is desperate for regular playing time during the backend of the season such that he can make the Euro 2020 squad with Germany.

He is currently a regular in the national side, but Joachim Loew has warned that the reduced playing time at club level could hamper his future selection.
