West Bromwich Albion interested in Benteke

25 January 2021 - 17:05

West Bromwich Albion are chasing the signature of Crystal Palace frontman Christian Benteke, with the Baggies prepared to pay up to £14 million to sign the Belgian international striker. Benteke has been out of form in recent seasons with Palace, but many point to his successful time at Aston Villa as an indicator of his talents.

  • London club want to sign Chelsea defender

  • Baggies manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that the relegation candidates are looking for a new striker, and that Benteke is high up on his list of transfer targets.

Allardyce quipped: "If they came to me and said Christian is available, I'm not sure that's the case at the moment, but if he is available I'd be interested."

Benteke currently earns £100,000 a week at Crystal Palace, and the club are keen to get the burly striker off of their wage bill this January transfer window.

Palace recently acquired striker Jean-Philippe Mateta from Mainz on an 18-month loan, and on his first day in training at the club the Frenchman has caught the eye. The 6 foot 4 striker is seen as a long-term successor to Benteke, but with the explosive power in front of goal that has been lacking in recent seasons whilst at Palace.

West Brom will be hoping that Benteke can fire the goals that keep the club in the Premier League.
