Arsenal to make move for Jan Thielmann

Arsenal have entered the race to sign FC Koln's attacking talent Jan Thielmann in a transfer said to be worth close to 15 million euros. The German under-21 international, who made his first appearance for Koln's first team in 2019, has caught the eye for the German club and Mikel Arteta is ready to beat some of Europe's top sides in securing a coup for the 19-year-old.

  • Thielmann burst on to the scene aged just 17-years-old, making his debut for FC Koln's first team. Since then he has become a regular starter for the club. In December 2020 the right winger, who is also comfortable playing as a forward, scored his first goal in a 2-2 draw with VfL Wolfsburg. Since then, the player's contract has been extended until 2024 and many top Bundesliga sides such as Bayer Leverkusen have been monitoring the player's transfer situation.

However, Arsenal are looking for attacking talent from across the continent and are confident a deal can be reached for the player. Coming through the ranks at Koln, Thielmann is very similar in that sense to former Gunners star Lukas Podolski. It is understood that the Emirates side have even contacted Podolski for more information on Thielmann, and to help boost their chances of landing the forward.

With just two years remaining on his deal, Arsenal are confident a deal can be reached for around 15 million euros and that Thielmann will become a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, who looks set for a return to his former club Lyon.
