Manchester United have emerged as surprise contenders to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison this summer.
The Foxes star was on the radar of Newcastle United last summer, but their proposal of £55m was turned down.
Maddison has since enjoyed another top season for the Foxes with nine goals and five assists from 17 appearances.
It is now reported that United have joined the race for the England star and could make a genuine bid this summer.
The Foxes are open to parting ways with their talented playmaker but are likely to hold out for a fee of £80m.
United are likely to go on another big spending spree this summer regardless of whether a takeover happens or not.
Erik ten Hag will be backed with plenty of funds and a new playmaker could be signed in the next transfer window.
Bruno Fernandes has been splendid from the number 10 role lately, but Ten Hag will want a strong competitor for him.
