Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Fabio Vieira will play no part over the coming weeks after undergoing a groin surgery.
The Portuguese has been a regular off the bench for the Gunners this term, but he has nonetheless impressed with six goal contributions.
Vieira missed the recent derby against Brentford due to suspension, and he is now sidelined for several weeks after an operation to his groin.
The midfielder was absent from today's open training session and speaking in his presser, Arteta revealed that he had to go under the knife.
With the setback, the Gunners are now without three midfielders. Aside from Vieira, Thomas Partey and Emile Smith are nursing injuries.
The only good news is that the duo are anticipated to return before the end of the year. This should provide the club with the added depth.
For now, Declan Rice, Jorginho and Kai Havertz could share the midfield duties. Mohamed Elneny could get cameos off the bench.
