John Terry wants Chelsea to re-sign Thiago Silva in January

17 December 2025 - 20:12

Chelsea legend John Terry has urged the Blues' hierarchy to re-sign Thiago Silva on a free transfer next month.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Cardiff City, Estevao & Caicedo start
  • Man Utd & Chelsea receive Noah Sadiki response

  • Silva recently turned 41, but he has no plans of stepping down from the game. He is eyeing a return to European football after a successful stint with Fluminense in the Brazilian top-flight.

Chelsea are not exploring a Bosman move for the veteran centre-back, but Terry believes the club should seek to re-sign him, given his experience could be valuable for the young squad.

He said: "Thiago Silva is available. Listen to me, a man with great experience, a man with a great relationship with our football club.

"I would love to see this man back at our football club, playing alongside these players.

"I'm not saying he has to play every week with the experience he can bring playing next to someone like that probably goes back to my role in 2017 under Antonio Conte when we won the league.

"I didn’t play but I had a role to play within the group. Be that buffer between the players the manager, the owners and have that bit of experience."

The Blues are presently fourth in the league standings with 28 points, but there have been plenty of concerns in the defensive point of view.

Chelsea have been unconvincing against opposition counter-attacks and definitely need a calming influence in the heart of their defence.

Silva is no longer in the prime of his career, but could still be a useful option off the bench to see out games with his vast experience.
