20 September 2008 - 08:08

Man City have one of the most gifted players in the world, Robinho - a true match winner who can turn the luck in their favour. The key problem of the Citizens is the lack of understanding between the players, the game against Portsmouth will see if they can play as a team.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Venue: City of Manchester Stadium

    Referee: Alan Wiley

Mark Hughes and his men are looking forward to win matches after their brilliant display against AC Omonia, thanks to a brace in the second half by the Brazilian wizkid Jo.

Man City has a fast attack, players with flair, creativity and style, a solid defense and a talented young goalkeeper. But, they seem to miss playing together as a team. Hughes might be hoping that his players gel together as a team and unleash the kind of football he wants them to play. The weakness of the team lies in the inability of some players to step up to the wavelength of the players like Robinho and Jo. Stephen Ireland and Micheal Ball were far low in standards in the match against Chelsea and most of the creative sparks were spoilt by the unimagination of these players.

Portsmouth's strength is the goal scoring ability of Defoe and solid defensive display against mid-table teams. They might have lost the last two games against the two of the best teams in the Premier League. Harry Redknapp had secured a 3-0 win against Everton away from home, which will give them enough confidence to play against the Eastland club.

The fact that worries Redknapp would be that Man City are looking more like a top team with stars - Robinho, Jo, Kompany and Elano are match winners.

    Injuries and Suspensions

The creative midfielder, Nico Kranjcar will no be available, former Man City captain Distin and England goal keeper David James will make a return for the Pompeys.

Man City is still not able to have the services of flying left midfielder - Martin Petrov. Garrido will return to the first team, Micheal Johnson is fit and he will fill the midfield.

    KeyMen

    Manchester City - Robinho

The Brazilian has given the City fans something to believe after his stunning freekick against Chelsea, scoring his first Premier League goal. He will be the main threat for Pompey, as his creative vision, passing and dribbling skills will prove lethal to the Portsmouth defense.

    Portsmouth - Defeo

The England striker has scored four goals so far in the Premier League - an impressive performance. He will be looking forward to add more to his tally.
