24 June 2009 - 10:31

Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo is reportedly very close to making a move from Fiorentina to Arsenal. It is understood that the two clubs have agreed a £14 million fee for the player.

  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking for a partner for Cesc Fabregas in his midfield, and sees the aggressive tough-tackling Brazilian as the ideal option.

Melo picked up 17 yellow and 3 red cards in Serie A last year, and is highly rated in Italy.

Currently playing for Brazil in the Confederations Cup, many scouts have been monitoring his progress.

However, it seems that Arsenal may have won the race for his signature, and that the player will begin discussing personal terms with the Gunners in mid July after he has taking his pre-season break.
