Sunderland boss Steve Bruce looks set to be disappointed in his pursuit of Tottenham striker Peter Crouch; after the board refused to sanction a £6 million bid for the 30 year old.
According to reports, the age of the player is a problem for Sunderland, who are looking for younger players with a greater resale value.
Crouch also commands a salary of around £65,000 per week; a figure that has put off the Sunderland board.
Bruce will now turn his attentions to finding a new striker abroad.
