Arsenal wont replace Clichy

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not yet decided if he will need to replace Gael Clichy. The French left back joined Man City in a 7.5m GBP move last week, and the Gunners boss remains undecided regarding the potential successor for the player.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of plays, including Lyon left back Aly Cissokho and Newcastle left back Jose Enrique; but eyefootball understands that Wenger is not too worried about finding a direct replacement for Clichy. He is happy with the development of youngster Kieron Gibbs - who filled in for Clichy occasionally over the last two years - and also is considering moving Thomas Vermaelen into left back if necessary.

Arsenal fans are waiting for Arsene Wenger to open the cheque book and spend some money, but may have to wait a little longer as the Gunners' boss is still waiting to see how Gibbs and Vermaelen perform in pre-season training.

Arsenal fans have already seen the Gunners have a ready made replacement whenever a left back leaves, as noticed when Nigel Winterburn left and Silvinho came into the side; and then after Silvinho the emergence of Ashley Cole. After Ashley Cole was sold to Chelsea, the Gunners had Gael Clichy waiting in the ranks.

This suggests that Arsene Wenger is not afraid to transfer the responsibility over to Kieron Gibbs straight away.
