Arsenal still hoping to sign Mertesacker

Arsenal are confident that they can wrap up a move for Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker before the transfer window closes.

The 6 foot 6 defender has been linked with a move for the Gunners for over a month; but apparently there have been issues negotiating a price for the player.

Mertesacker is currently the captain of Werder Bremen and if he signs for the Gunners, that will effectively end Arsenal's interest in Bolton defender Gary Cahill.
