Liverpool linked with Vertonghen

Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Belgium international defender Jan Vertonghen. The Ajax defender has been likened to fellow countryman Thomas Vermaelen.

Many rate Vertonghen as the best defender in the Netherlands, and the Belgian had been linked with a move to Arsenal all summer.

However, Vertonghen has remained at Ajax for the time being, but reports Liverpool are considering a move are sure to be unsettling.

Vertonghen helped Ajax to the Eredivisie title last year and is valued at around 12.5m GBP by the Dutch side.
