Arsenal favourites to sign 19 year old Dutch starlet
Arsenal are top favourites to sign Dutch starlet Adam Maher from Az Alkmaar and could make a bid for the youngster this summer.
Alkmaar are aware that a deal is likely to be done sooner rather than later, as it is difficult for Dutch clubs to keep their prized assets out of the clutches of the big clubs in Europe once their promise in identified.
Verbeek is hoping Maher will refuse a move away and stay in the Eredivisie for another seaon, but admits that he would prefer to accept a deal from Arsenal if the right offer is provided.
He told Studio Voetbal: "I think Arsenal is a perfect club for him. With Arsene Wenger, who worked with young talents like him before.
"He can get the most out of himself at Arsenal. Look at Robin van Persie, he joined Arsenal at a young age and look what he achieved."
Ajax were also monitoring Maher but insist they have no have interest in him anymore.
Gunners Legend Marc Overmars whose now the Director of football at the Amsterdam giants says their interest in Maher is now over.
“I called Adam and his representative Sigi Lens to say that we have made different choices,” he told De Telegraaf. “ Additionally, I have said to AZ that we have no interest.”
