Arsenal's Gervinho close to Marseille switch

Ligue 1 side Marseille have held talks recently with Gervinho’s agent regarding the Ivorian International's availability as a route out of the Emirates looks imminent for the forward.

Gervinho has made just a handful of starts under Wenger last season and his lack of exposure to first team football seems to have frustrated the winger and to accept to part ways which may be beneficial to both him and the club.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce had also admitted a desire to move in for the forward, however their interest seems to have cooled off for now and Marseille have emerged as favourites for Gervinho's signature.

Gervinho played for Ligue 1 side Lille Metropole before securing a transfer to the Gunners in the summer of 2011 for a fee in the region of £10.8 million. Although the forward notched up 5 goals and 3 assists in his 12 league appearances, half of which he played as a substitute, his regular tendency to just go missing in the big matches has constantly made him to be disregarded by Wenger.

With the imminent signing of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and given Wenger’s pursuit for some of the top talents, it looks like it’s time for Gervinho to find a new home as Arsenal move on.
