Oriol Romeu linked with a move back to Spain

The Europa League champions Chelsea acquired the services of Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu from the La Masia academy of FC Barcelona a couple of years back.Though the Spaniard found his chances to start for the first team hard to come by, he has impressed in the little time he has got to show off his skills.

Chelsea signed Romeu from the Catalans without much conflict, as they announced his signing just in a day after there were rumours linking him to Chelsea.

Barcelona did put up a buy back clause for the 21 year old central midfielder. In his first season at the Stamford Bridge, Andre Villas-Boas recognised his talent and played him regularly hoping to give the player a chance to develop his talents.

After which the arrival of Di Matteo demoted him the pecking order with John Obi Mikel prefered in the central role. After Di Matteo's sacking, upon the arrival of fellow Spaniard Rafael Benitez, Romeu started seeing more time on the pitch. But his happiness was short to be lived as the Spaniard suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear which effectively ruled him out for the rest of the season.

As of now, Oriol Romeu is being linked with a loan move to La Liga sides Celta Vigo and Valencia.
