Barcelona confirm Gerardo Martino as their new manager


The Argentinian coach Gerardo Martino has agreed a two-year contract with La Liga side. He signs for the Catalans as a replacement for Tito Vilanova who stepped down from his role due to his treatment against throat cancer.

The 50-year-old recently left Newell's Old Boys after succeeding them to the Clausura title last term.He also has experience managing a national side as he spent spent five years in charge of Paraguay, guiding the country to the Quarter-Finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa.


"FC Barcelona have reached an agreement on the signing of Gerardo Martino as new first team coach for the next two seasons, pending the final signature on the contract," read a statement from the Spanish giants.


"In the coming hours details will be finalised on his arrival in Barcelona, contract signing and subsequent presentation." 


Martino's first duty after admission would be to solve the transfer saga around their star midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
