Young denies Ramos a win

Luke Young scored his first goal for Middlesbrough to earn a 1-1 draw against Tottenham and deny Juande Ramos a first Premier League win. Darren Bent had scored earlier on to put Tottenham in front.

Ramos was in charge of a league game for the first time since arriving at Tottenham as Martin Jol's successor and got the perfect start when Darren Bent scored his third goal of the season in the 34th minute.

The lead lasted until six minutes after the interval when Young, who joined Boro from Charlton in pre-season, blazed an unstoppable drive past Paul Robinson to earn his team a share of the spoils and prevent them from slumping to their fifth straight defeat.

Ramos sprang a major surprise before kick off by dropping both Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov to the substitutes bench in favour of Bent and Jermaine Defoe.

The closest Boro had come to beating Robsinson again was in the 49th minute when David Wheater sent a glancing header towards the bottom corner from Fabio Rochemback's free kick only to see the England keeper tip the ball wide.

Ramos replaced his front two with Berbatov and Keane with almost an hour gone but despite some lively runs from Keane the duo were unable to engineer the winning goal that would have proved their manager wrong to leave them out in the first place.

The hard-earned point was nevertheless enough to lift Tottenham out of the bottom three at the expense of Wigan as the long climb to safety begins in earnest under Ramos.
