Barcelona Sporting Director Claims United Have Renounced Fabregas Pursuit

Manchester United have given up on their efforts to lure Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, claimed Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

United have been looking to sign a midfielder this transfer season and their previous target, Spanish wonderkid Thiago Alcantara, snubbed them to reunite with former boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.

David Moyes’ side had lodged a third and understandably final bid in the region of £40 million for the 26-year-old last week but it seems Barcelona, who have been firm in denying Fabregas’ availability for transfer all along, are unmoved by this luring offer.

"Manchester United are interested in the player, but it's also true that they understand our position of not wanting to sell," Zubizarreta was quoted as saying in Sport

"They have renounced his signing. We aren't going to sell him."

"He has a contract with us. We count on Cesc”

"I said that on the day of the presentation of Tito and also with Tata : He's an extraordinary player who creates and finishes chances. We are delighted with him. He's the No. 4 of Barca."
