Nicklas Bendtner could earn shock Arsenal recall
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could field Danish international striker Nicklas Bendtner against Marseille this week. The crucial Champions League group stage game will pit the Gunners against the French giants and it is understood that Olivier Giroud is facing a late fitness test.
The Gunners are considering resting star striker Giroud ahead of the game this week and instead will recall Nicklas Bendtner to the first team. With Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo also both out through injury, Bendtner could be set for a shock recall to the Arsenal side.
25-year-old Bendtner, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sunderland and Juventus, had been told to stay at the Emirates after manager Arsene Wenger pulled the plug on a move to Crystal Palace.
After yesterday's 3-1 win over Sunderland, Arsene Wenger said of Bendtner: “I wanted him to stay because I felt we were short up front.”
