Vermaelen confident of Arsenal future
Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is confident that he has a future at the Emirates, despite talk of a potential move away in the January transfer window. The impressive form of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny has sen the Belgian slip down to the substitute's bench.
There has been some talk of a move on loan in the January transfer window, with Newcastle and former club Ajax amongst the teams interested.
However, Vermaelen wants to stay at the Emirates and fight for his future instead of leaving the club.
“I'm still confident I can play for this club,” Vermaelen said. “I keep reading stories that I want to leave. But that's not the case. I'm still focused on the team. I am always positive.
“In any case, it is not about my situation. It's what the team do and I am really happy that we're top of the league.”
