Chelsea join race to sign Man Utd target Fabio Coentrao

Chelsea are set to battle with Manchester United for the signature of Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao during the January transfer window.

The Premier League champions failed in an attempt to sign the Portuguese defender on transfer deadline day, as Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelloti rebuffed the season-long loan suggesting that the club could not find adequate cover.


Red Devils manager David Moyes is expected to return with a new bid to acquire the 25-year-old's signature, who was said to be heartbroken when his switch to the Premier League holders fell through.


However, The Daily Mail claims that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who was his former coach at the Bernabeu, is lining up a short-term deal during the New Year with a view to a permanent move at the end of the current campaign.
