Man Utd target Andres Iniesta signs new deal with Barcelona
Barcelona's star midfielder Andres Iniesta has agreed terms over a new three year contract extension at the club.
The new deal will keep the Spanish sensation at the La Liga giants until the summer of 2018, thereby brushing off rumours linking him with a switch to Premier League champions Manchester United.
Iniesta, who has played out his entire professional career with the Catalan outfit, was speculated to be vying for an exit from the club, following a stall on talks over a new contract.
"The Barcelona president [Sandro Rosell] has confirmed that Andres Iniesta, who was on contract until 2015, will now be staying at FCB until June 30, 2018," said a statement in the club's official website. "In 479 official appearances, Iniesta has won 21 trophies at the club."
Rosell also revealed his delight at getting the deal done, and believes it will be an early Christmas present for the club's staunch supporters."We are very, very happy," he said. "I think this is a great Christmas gift for all Barcelona fans."
Iniesta has scored 48 goals in 479 appearances for Barcelona in his playing career so far.
