Chelsea to make a bid for Papy Djilobodji

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sent scouts to monitor the progress of 25-year-old Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji. The 6 foot 4 defender is a surprise target for the Blues during the January transfer window.

The powerful centre back has been in excellent form for the French Ligue 1 side since he forced his way into the first team in 2010 and is now being linked with a move to the Premier League. Chelsea are looking to sign a new centre back for the second half of the season as there remains doubts over the future of Brazilian defender David Luiz whilst Jose Mourinho is also seeking a new backup defender for Gary Cahill and John Terry.

The Blues are ready to match Nantes' asking price which is believed to be in the region of about 3.5 million Euros.
