Caceres on Man Utd radar

Manchester United manager David Moyes could make a surprise bid for Juventus and Uruguay international defender Martin Caceres. The 26-year-old is reportedly being considered as a replacement for Nemanja Vidic, as the Serb looks set to quit Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Caceres currently plays for Juventus having joined the Italian side from Sevilla back in 2012, but has so far struggled to force his way into Antonio Conte's first team plans on a regular basis. Prior to joining Sevilla, Caceres also played for fellow Spanish clubs Villarreal and Barcelona. The centre back, who has 55 caps to his name, has so far struggled for first team action throughout his career and is looking for a move to England to prove himself.

The 26-year-old is expected to be a major part of Uruguay's squad for the World Cup next summer and has already told his agent that he is hoping to quit Juventus in search of regular first team football after the tournament.

After centre back Nemanja Vidic told reporters that he would be looking to quit Old Trafford at the end of this season, Manchester United have been linked with several new centre backs but it is understood that Caceres is still widely regarded as the favourite to succeed Vidic at Old Trafford.

There also remains some question marks over the long term future of centre back Rio Ferdinand, who has so far remained tight lipped on speculation linking him with a move away from United in the coming transfer window.
