Sam Allardyce has joined Sir Alex Ferguson in backing only one man for the vacant England manager's job - Jose Mourinho. The Newcastle boss believes that there should only be one candidate.

“If The FA consult me about it, I’ll give them a shortlist of one – and tell them to get Mourinho. It is the job of the England manager to motivate players and there is no one better at that than Mourinho,” Ferguson told The Daily Express, who also has backed Mourinho.

Allardyce has said on Sky Sports News: "If they (FA) can afford him, he'd be great. He is a fantastic coach and a really, really good manager.

"I just don't know how long he'd want to do it for. He has been a two, three-year man and then moves on.

"If the FA are willing to accept that then they've got a fantastic coach and a fantastic personality to take up the position."

Mourinho, who is currently out of job after leaving the Blues by mutual consent in September, told the Sun: "Tell the FA to come and get me. We will have to wait and see but I rule nothing out."
