Lahm wants midfield role

Germany skipper Philipp Lahm has admitted that he would like to play in midfield during this summer's World Cup finals in Brazil.

The talented star has played as a full-back for the majority of his career, but had been deployed as a central midfielder by Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola last season.

While speaking to The Guardian, Lahm revealed that he expects Joachim Low to ask him to play in a similar role during the World Cup.

"You would have to ask the manager, it's not my job to make these considerations public." He said. "But I played the last test game before the World Cup in midfield, so I'd expect to play there in the competition as well.

"It's possible [to swap positions throughout the tournament] but I have to say that it's not easy for a player to keep changing."
