QPR sign Rio Ferdinand

Queens Park Rangers have successfully completed the signing of former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on a free transfer, according to the club's official website.

The former England international had been associated with a switch away from the Premier League over the past month, following the expiry of his contract at Old Trafford.

However, Hoops boss Harry Redknapp managed to persuade the veteran defender into staying in the English top tier.

Having undergone a successful medical with the West London outfit, Ferdinand was pleased to have got the chance to ply his trade in the Premier League.

“It’s not about money – I had loads of more lucrative offers available to me, offers from all over the world, some in places with a better climate than here." He said. “But the draw for me was to play in the Premier League and back here where it all started."
