Barcelona agree transfer fee for Man Utd target
Barcelona have apparently agreed a transfer fee for Manchester United target and Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, according to a report.
The Gunners skipper has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer, following his failure to seal a regular starting berth in the first-team last season, with manager Arsene Wenger opting for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as his preferred central defensive partnership.
Manchester United were strongly linked with a move for the Belgian international, but the transfer now appears to be dead in the water following the Red Devils' refusal to consider a player swap deal with the Gunners.
According to BBC Sport, Barca are now front-runners to sign Vermaelen having agreed a £15m fee for his services with the North London outfit.
Vermaelen joined the Gunners from Eredivisie giants Ajax in the summer of 2009.
