Babel: I want ten goals

Liverpool striker Ryan Babel has revealed that he hopes to grab ten Premiership goals before the end of the season. The ex Ajax striker has impressed this year so far, but if not so much more than in a bit part role. Babel has already bagged five goals this year.

"I've said before that goalscoring is a quality of my game and I'm pleased I've been able to show that lately," Babel said.

"I have three Premier League goals so far and I hope to reach ten before the end of the season. Of course, if I can score more then that would be even better but to get ten would mean I'd had a good first season here.”

"The goal which stands out for me so far was the one at Newcastle when we passed the ball well and Stevie set me up after I had given him the ball. I know people may look at the Besiktas goal but I think eight out of ten players in that position would have tried the back-heel because it was the only way to make contact with the ball. My goal at Newcastle probably gave me more satisfaction."

He added: "I feel as though I'm taking small steps forward in terms of performance levels but I'm not the finished article yet. I'm still in a learning period at Liverpool but the fact we are playing better now than we were earlier in the season is making it easier for me to develop quickly.

"I knew it would take time because I came from Ajax where I played on the left of a 4-3-3 formation into a Liverpool team which plays 4-4-2 and where I was going to have more responsibility defending. At Ajax I didn't have to do any defending but that's not the case here. It's a new system and a new way of playing but I'm getting used to it and feel as though I'm getting better."
