Tottenham have secured their qualification for the next round of the UEFA Cup and will be in the draw in the last 16 thanks to a Dimitar Berbatov penalty that gave Spurs a 1-1 draw and a point against Anderlecht.

Jenas and Malbranque had two efforts on target in the first-half, but failed to properly test Zitka in the goal.

Spurs had a penalty appeal turned down after Robbie Keane thought he was brought down close to the Anderlecht goal, but the ref waved the appeals away.

Spurs came out for the second half with more intent, and Robbie Keane forced Zitka into a quality save.

Totenham’s pressure failed to tell and the hosts caught the Spurs defence on the back foot, and a defensive error on the edge of the penalty area left Bart Goor open to pass the ball past Robinson to make it 1-0 to Anderlecht in the 68th minute. Party time for Anderlecht.

Anderlecht’s lead lasted less than two minutes before Spurs forced their way into the hosts’ danger area, with Jermaine Jenas’ heel being clipped by Marcin Wasilewski while setting up to shoot from close-range, with the referee instantly pointing towards the penalty-spot.

It was substitute Dimitar Berbatov (who came on for Robbie Keane in the 59th minute) that equalised from the spot-kick to level the scores and keep Tottenham’s European dream alive.

Jermain Defoe replaced Darren Bent in the 72nd minute, with Anderlecht’s Walter Baseggio replacing striker Mbo Mpenza at the same time as both sides searched for the winning goal.

Despite late presure from the hosts, the Tottenham defence held strong to maintain a draw. The draw confirms Spurs' place in the knockout stages of the Cup, while Anderlecht have to get a result in their final Group G match against Getafe.
