Chelsea in talks to sign Roma star

Chelsea are apparently in talks with AS Roma over the potential transfer of star defender Mehdi Benatia to the club this summer.

The Blues boss Jose Mourinho is well aware of the need for a new central defender, following the departure of David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the transfer window.

According to The Express, the West London club have held talks with the Serie A giants over a deal for the Moroccan international.

The news may come as a blow to Manchester United, who are thought to be keen on signing Benatia to solve their defensive frailties.

Chelsea could land the French-born Moroccan star for a transfer fee of around £30m.
