Mikel Arteta to sign new Arsenal contract

Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta will sign a new contract at Arsenal. The club's newly appointed captain had been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Prior to the Gunners' game against Crystal Palace this afternoon, Arsene Wenger revealed that the midfielder will be staying put at the Gunners for the long term.

"He is a strong personality, Mikel Arteta," Wenger said. "It’s not done at the moment, but I don’t really doubt that he will extend his contract."
