Thibaut Courtois news

Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has penned a new five-year deal with Chelsea

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois penned a new five-year deal with the English club earlier today.

The Belgian international had joined the Blues in 2011 from Genk, but spent the last three seasons on loan to Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

He made 154 appearances for the Red and Whites across all competitions winning La Liga and the Europa League among other major honours during his time at the Vicente Calderon.

The 22-year-returned to his parent club this summer, as boss Jose Mourinho confirmed that the young player will be his first-choice goalkeeper instead of the veteran shot-stopper Petr Cech this season.

Having already kept one clean sheet in their three appearances so far, Courtois made a number of important saves and the Portuguese manager will be hoping he keeps up his performances behind the nets throughout the season.

Courtois has also earned 22 international caps for the Red Devils since his debut in November 2011, and was a part of the squad that reached the quarter finals of the World Cup in Brazil this year.
